Christ's Birth[Introduction] When Christ was born in Bethlehem, No neighbours called, no friends came round. The visitors were country folk - Rough shepherds - wakened by the sound Of angel voices telling them To go and seek in Bethlehem A Mighty Prince - a fragile Child - Cradled by His mother mild, They went, they sought, they found. When Christ was born in Bethlehem, The townsfolk all ignored His birth; But strangers came, led by a star, From distant corners of the earth To offer Him their gifts most rare, In that stable cold and bare. Their prophecies - a fragile Child - Cradled by His mother mild, They came, they sought, they found. When Christ was born in Bethlehem, No feast was planned, no banquet spread, The cosy homes were closed to Him - His shelter poor - a cattle shed; His bed - a manger filled with straw. The ox and ass watched all in awe - The lonely birth- a fragile Child - Cradled by His mother mild, Come now, seek Him, and find. When Christ is born this Christmastide In every true believer's heart, Then peace and joy flood over all And guilt and pain and fear depart. In Him no outcast need feel lost - Their debt is paid - whate'er the cost By God in Christ - the fragile Child - Cradled by His mother mild. Come now, seek Him, and find. "Christ's Birth" was one of those songs where the words seemed to write themselves. That can create a problem - for then the musician does not feel that he, or she, can alter them. Only John took up the challenge - he has never written a melody before but an afternoon of hard work produced this plaintive little tune which fits the reflective words so well. "Foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." Matthew 8 v 20. ![]() ![]() ![]() This page displayed 2724 times ![]() This site recreated by Elton Smith and Larry Holder If you have any questions about this site, contact Elton Smith |
